Women's Team Preview - 2014 XC Nationals11/12/2014
Two weeks ago the race for the team title seemed to be a no-brainer. Two-time defending National champ Virginia returned nearly everyone from a year ago and racked up multiple regular season invitational wins. Then, Mid Atlantic Regionals saw the heavily-favored Cavaliers fall to rival Penn State for the second straight year. Even though they were without three-time All-American Anna Gordon (and that makes a big difference) UVA is a bit more vulnerable than we thought which makes the battle for the team title in East Lansing all the more intriguing in 2014.
Men's Team Preview - 2014 XC Nationals11/12/2014
The question leading up to this year’s NIRCA XC National Championships is not who will win the men’s team title as much as it is, “how many points will they score?” While it is impossible to say anything is a guarantee, it’s hard to imagine that Indiana University won’t leave East Lansing this weekend with their second consecutive championship. After scoring a perfect 15 points at the Great Lakes Regional, you have to wonder if the same improbable feat is possible at Nationals.
Women's Individual Preview - 2014 XC Nationals11/10/2014
The race for the individual national championship features some very familiar names as at least seven of the top 11 finishers from a year ago are all back. With two-time champion Betsy Suda gone, there will be a first-time winner crowned in East Lansing this weekend and it is very likely to be one of those returning 2013 All-Americans.
Men's Individual Preview - 2014 XC Nationals11/10/2014
The list of returning medal winners from a year ago has a familiar theme to it: Indiana University. Already an overwhelming favorite for the team title, can the Hoosiers also claim an individual champion? Will a pair of Great Plains runners from the same club challenge? Or how about a freshman in his first NIRCA Nationals performance? The men’s individual title appears to be wide open in 2014.
